Lessons from Santa Claus
by Ken Ingram
As I look back to 2008 it cause me to consider the efforts of the ultimate master coach we all know as St-Nick. Without doubt, Santa Claus is the world’s most successful entrepreneur and coach. All his clients love him; all of his elves love him. This is a testament to his abilities in sales and business development. He has learned and mastered the ability to ACCESS the best methods to achieve greater sales and results by always knowing what to say and how to say it. He recognizes that we are all part of the idea delivery system and this enables him to be truly and fully connected in business. Ho-Ho-Ho and what do you want?
Let’s talk about his result centered leadership style. His ability to engage and motivate his team of elves every step of the way by tapping into their imagination has enabled them to design and manufacture billions of toys. This must be stressful but it is also his responsibility as the leader to manage his stress and to help others manage theirs. As a coach your responsibility is also to engage your coachees by enabling them to tap into their underused potential in order to become more successful both personally and professionally.
As a master planner, Santa has fine-tuned his organization by taking into account the milestones that are critical for an effective overall operating philosophy. He has assessed where the organization must be in the future and developed both short and long-term goals in order to fly above global competition. The same thing is essential and applies to your coachees’ development.
Concerning his own personal productivity and use of time, he has mastered his ability not to become distracted and diverted from what is important. The key to feeling in control is to focus on what is essential rather than what is pressing. He has learned how to be proactive rather than reactive. This enables him to stay jolly.
Of course, the (FICQ) Federation International Coach Quebec cannot claim credit for Santa’s personal and professional development; it was Mrs. Claus. But getting to the North Pole may be a little far for you and your coachee. So for similar results, it is nice to know that the FICQ has members that you can count on right here in Montreal.
Lastly, I would like to say I expect 2009 to be a great year for all the members of FICQ. Let’s keep spreading the word about the FICQ. Please do not keep us a secret. We make a great under the tree present to yourself and coachee any time of the year.
Do you have the audacity to be the master of your own success in 2009?
