how to become an icf certified Coach
by Pat Snow
Have you ever wondered how to become an ICF certified coach? It will take time and it will take effort. There is a clear pathway.
Yvon Lachapelle, PCC and president of the (Quebec International Coach Federation) (QICF) gave a dynamic presentation recently to the English-speaking coaches breakfast club. Step by step, he outlined what to do to achieve your goals toward each of the three levels of accreditation.
There are two pathways you can take towards the first two levels of certification, ACC-Associate Certified Coach and PCC-Professional Certified Coach. The first is for individuals who have followed an accredited coach training program (ACTP); the second is called the Portfolio program. The MCC-Master Certified Coach has one pathway.
Here is a brief summary of the steps toward certification:
Applications- For all three are accepted all year round.
Coach-Specific Training- Each level requires a certain number of hours of training.
Mentor Coach - Each requires work with a mentor coach for a set number of hours.
Experience - Includes minimum coaching hours with clients, unpaid, paid, and numbers of clients.
Coach References - Reference letters from mentor coaches.
Examination - Offered by the International Coach Federation.
Fees - Differ for each level and for ICF or non-ICF members. Extra fee for exam.
