Destination Room 515-a, Palais des congrès de Montréal
by Sandy Gibson

For all those who stood up to encourage and share; for all those who sat quietly by and listened; for all those who applauded and wondered what was about to happen – here’s to you!

Everything happens for a reason.

What do you get when you add more than 1500 people from all around the world to a city already blessed with cultural diversity?

While my visit was short, my experience at the ICF conference in Montréal was an adventure unlike any other. From the moment I began weaving my way through the city streets, I could taste the welcoming essence of a city filled with passion. I was immediately taken aback by the cleanliness of the city streets, the quaint shops, and the abundance of creative energy found only in a city overflowing with unlimited possibility.

However unique the city of Montréal, Room 515-A in the Palais des congrès is where all the angels gathered on 15 November, 2008 at 11 o’clock precisely.

I have been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to present in such an amazing city as Montréal. Being of service, sharing my knowledge, thoughts and opinions in a room full of professional coaches from around the world is a natural fit for me. Those who know me would agree I am confident and grounded, capable and experienced, positive and upbeat. It is rare that I find myself at a loss for words, especially when it comes to representing your business in the online world.

Yet that morning, in Room 515-A, I found myself not just nervous but tongue-tied and bewildered, near collapse and in incredible pain. 101 reasons and excuses could not explain what happened that day. Why and how is simply not important as through it all, lost in a circle of wisdom, real learning and knowledge sharing did take place.

Brand harmony and fine-tuning your business offer online was the topic of the hour. The elements of building a solid business foundation, differentiating your best offer and striking balance between prospective client needs and your own needs on a business website were just some of the highlights of our discussion. We also touched on the basics of a variety of marketing activities to help grow a business.

At the ICF conference in Montreal, I was met with support and encouragement, strength and heart, courage and creativity, but most of all, a newfound appreciation for what it means to be a living, breathing human being. The group of coaches participating and sharing their knowledge in the room that day was the best part of the event for me. It was a privilege to engage the collective wisdom of the group.

To feel the energy in Room 515-A was a gift for all those who were open to experiencing an authentic testimony of the essence of what it means to be a coach in a world where nothing is guaranteed. Only in a room full of professional coaches will you ever witness true vibration at the highest level.

The learning that took place in Room 515-A was a celebration of humanity.

Indeed, everything happens for a reason.

So what do you get when you add hundreds and hundreds of coaches from around the world to a city already blessed with cultural diversity?

An ICF conference, of course….
