overview
In 1997, Fred Horowitz, a coach from the Montreal area had a vision: that of gathering together men and women from the area, who like him had chosen the coaching profession or who felt a calling for this wonderful profession. Animated by the desire to gather and share with those who would ensure that coaching holds a privileged place, he undertook the mission to create the Montreal Chapter of the International Coaching Federation (ICF).
Supported by Andréa Strom-Rancourt, Roger St-Aubin and Gilles Brouilette, Fred worked incessantly to create awareness of the Federation and recruit new members. In 2001, Patricia Snow, Eric Stern and Gilles Fréchette joined the group of ‘architects’ and organized regular meetings whereby coaches could contribute to and support each other in the development of their coaching careers.
As a direct result of this vision and perseverance, on December 21, 2001, the Montreal Chapter became the 22 nd Chartered Chapter of the ICF. In 2002, the ICF counted more than 4000 members among 177 sections, in more than 30 countries globally. Only 21 sections have a sufficient number of certified members with the required structure to qualify as a Chartered Chapter.
We now have a Non-Profit Organization by the name of ‘Fédération montréalaise des coachs ( FMC ) or Montreal Coach Federation that forms the Montreal Chapter of the ICF.
In December 2005, following a member vote, the FMC becomes the Quebec International Coach Federation. It is comprised of three local sections: Montreal, Quebec and Eastern Townships. The year 2006 consisted of restructuring and foundation building.
The membership is increasingly growing and by January 2007 exceeded 220 members, coming from all corners of the Province of Quebec.
